New Christmas Card design

Seasons greetings! Here is this year's design for my Christmas cards, they should hopefully be printed this week by my lovely Shed :)

This year I have also been working on something very special for my nephew for his first Christmas! But it is still "hush hush!", however I shall be posting more of my festive art works soon!

My Hallo-WEENIE picture for Lauren

My sister is such a festive fun nut this time of year. Like me she loves the autumn and winter seasons, and as it is nearly hallowe'en I have done a very Weenie sketch of her riding a broom! I hope she loves it as much as I do. I shall get it to her in time for her annual Hallowe'en party.

I shall take this opportunity to wish you a very HAPPY HALLOWE'EN!

Jacqui says "You can you draw with a tablet!"

I drew with my tablet at work... who knew... it's just like drawing on paper. Well done me.

New job, new skills, new Frank

It has been a while since my last post, however I started my first proper animation job 2 weeks ago so I have been very busy! However here is a little peek at what I have been doing in my new job as a Junior Animator for CPL Training Group. I am getting to grips with new software and I decided to use my character Frank as a test.

There will be more updates soon!

Ben's Pic

I was happy to get another commission from one of the lovely people at Langleys. This is Ben's picture, he and his girlfriend are ski fanatics... if you couldn't tell!

I hope he will be just as happy with it as Ellie was with her picture!

A little gift for my new nephew James Patrick Howley

A HUGE Congratulations to my brother, Harry and his lovely girlfriend, Rachel, as she gave birth to James Patrick Howley on Friday.
Here it is, my contribution to his nursery. My lovely boyfriend, Ed, helped me with the colour and text editing and he very kindly got it printed for me. This should go nicely with all the other animal toys and images in wee James' room.

And there he is with Aunty Chloe and Uncle Shed :D

Latest commissioned piece

This is a caricature I have done over the weekend for Ellie Daniels, the lovely lady from the Marketing department at Langleys. She very kindly parted with her money so I could draw this for her as a gift for her boyfriend (and Angus the cat!). Fingers cross she looks as happy as this picture when I have it printed for her on Monday morning!!

Illustrations styles

It may appear that I have been dormant for the past month. Fear not I am in the process of creating more illustrations, experimenting with different styles. The two images I have done below were inspired by 60's and 70's animated cartoons.
"Creepy Castle"
"Mr Mans Pretty Pink Car"

I will not leave it so long next time! More updates on its way soon!

I will be producing more examples of children's book illustration for my portfolio soon so watch this space!

Illustrations and naked men

Little bit of a mixture going on here. First off I have been working on examples of children's illustration, using existing children's stories and poems.

This is the coloured version of my one of my favourite poems from my childhood,
"The Owl and the Pussy Cat"
This is the only one I have managed to colour so far however the others featured underneath will be digitally inked soon.
"The Little Mermaid"
The original Hans Christian  Andersen tale is actually very dark and does not have the happy ending Disney depicted. This is one of my favourite fairy tales as it is unexpectedly sinister. I was experimenting with more abstract lines.
"Cinderella"
This was a nice scene to sketch from the fairy tale Cinderella, I wanted to add more texture with the strokes I used instead of sticking to cross hatching.

And.... then I have done some naked sketches Yay!

Not related to my children's illustrative works, however I feel they are just as important. I tend to draw women and I felt it was time to get back to basics and get out of my comfort zone and draw men!...And actually... I quite enjoyed it :D I stayed very loose and free with the lines, the form was what I wanted to concentrate on. Practice makes perfect.

Self portrait...

Here we go... not a cartoony image, but a self portrait! Exciting stuff. My new years resolution is to get myself out of my comfort zone and actually apply purpose to my drawings. I confess I am not in my element when it comes to life drawings, however if I am to improve I must practice practice practice!

It has been some time since I last did a pencil sketch, I usually ink most of my drawings. This sketch was done with a 5b pencil. Once I had scanned my image in I just quickly added a sepia tone, I find this brings the pencil lines out and adds a bit of atmosphere.
