Illustrations and naked men

Little bit of a mixture going on here. First off I have been working on examples of children's illustration, using existing children's stories and poems.

This is the coloured version of my one of my favourite poems from my childhood,
"The Owl and the Pussy Cat"
This is the only one I have managed to colour so far however the others featured underneath will be digitally inked soon.
"The Little Mermaid"
The original Hans Christian  Andersen tale is actually very dark and does not have the happy ending Disney depicted. This is one of my favourite fairy tales as it is unexpectedly sinister. I was experimenting with more abstract lines.
"Cinderella"
This was a nice scene to sketch from the fairy tale Cinderella, I wanted to add more texture with the strokes I used instead of sticking to cross hatching.

And.... then I have done some naked sketches Yay!

Not related to my children's illustrative works, however I feel they are just as important. I tend to draw women and I felt it was time to get back to basics and get out of my comfort zone and draw men!...And actually... I quite enjoyed it :D I stayed very loose and free with the lines, the form was what I wanted to concentrate on. Practice makes perfect.

Self portrait...

Here we go... not a cartoony image, but a self portrait! Exciting stuff. My new years resolution is to get myself out of my comfort zone and actually apply purpose to my drawings. I confess I am not in my element when it comes to life drawings, however if I am to improve I must practice practice practice!

It has been some time since I last did a pencil sketch, I usually ink most of my drawings. This sketch was done with a 5b pencil. Once I had scanned my image in I just quickly added a sepia tone, I find this brings the pencil lines out and adds a bit of atmosphere.
